There are a few different options you can choose from when you first sign up to Planta: you can either choose to have a completely anonymous account, Sign up with Apple, Sign up with Google, or Sign up with email. These options can somewhat impact how you use Planta. Here's a guide to help you choose which option is best for you. We usually recommend using the 'Sign up with email' option.
Anonymous Account
If you want to stay completely anonymous, you can choose not to link any kind of ID to your Planta account. However, please note that if you do this, your account data will not be saved if you get a new device. If you are using an anonymous account and you plan on switching devices, we'd recommend that you first add an ID to your account. You can do this by going to My Plants > Settings (gear in top right corner) > Account > Create account to save data.
Sign up with Apple
When you sign up using your Apple ID, your plant data and subscription information are linked to your ID, therefore, if you get a new device your account will transfer over automatically as long as you log in using the same Apple ID. This option also allows you to keep your personal email address private, as Apple will automatically assign you a randomly-generated email, which allows you to get in contact with us at Planta without revealing your personal email.
One thing to bear in mind though is that if you wish to share your account with someone else (it is currently possible to use the same Planta account on 2 different devices), you'll need to use the same ID on both devices which understandably isn't always ideal! Therefore, if you'd like to share your account, we'd recommend using a different login option.
Sign up with email
This option is typically the most straightforward choice, as it makes it easy for you to share your Planta account with another person - just log in using the same email and password combination on both devices. It also means that if you get a new device, your account information will transfer over automatically when you log in using your email on the new device.
